Health insurance is insurance that will cover the cost of your medical expenses, including exams, tests, procedures, treatments, medications and more. You may be in the position of needing to purchase your own medical insurance and paying a monthly premium or you may be eligible for government funded insurance plans, such as state insurance or Medicare. Here are some of the things that you should know about the different types of insurance, so you know which one is right for you.

Buying traditional insurance

If you are a person who is not disabled and is considered as one who is making enough money annually to purchase your own insurance, then you will need to do so. You can use the Internet or insurance information hotlines to learn about the different plans that are available to you. You may be able to get a discount if you don't make a certain amount of money annually which will help bring down the amount of your monthly premium.

When you purchase your own insurance, you will need to decide on the plan you want. You can pay more and get smaller co-pays and deductibles. You will have to pay co-pays at the times of your appointments and you will have to pay the deductibles before your insurance kicks in.

Getting state funded insurance

If you don't make enough to pay for your own insurance then you may be eligible to receive state funded insurance. Depending on the amount of money you do make, you may not have any co-pays or deductibles with this type of insurance. Generally, the whole family will be included in this insurance plan, including your spouse and children.

Getting Medicare insurance

If you are on disability or you are 65 or older, then you are eligible to receive Medicare. This is a type of insurance that some may have to pay a small amount for that will come directly out of their disability payments. You may have a co-pay and deductibles with Medicare.

Medicare supplemental plans

If you are on Medicare then you may find you have a hard time keeping up with your co-pays and deductible. If you do, then there is some great news and this is that you can also get a Medicare supplemental plan. This is a plan that you will get through a private health insurance company. You will have a monthly premium to pay, but the amount is generally very affordable. A Medicare supplemental plan will come in and help you by paying the co-pays and deductibles for you, so you can continue with your appointments and other medical treatments and medications without worrying about not being able to afford them along the way.
